The Education Partnership
The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan 2021-2025 (p16) committed to the introduction of a new partnership to improve crime education for young people.
The Education Partnership brings together partners from the OPCC, Humberside Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Safeguarding and Children’s Services leads from the 4 local authorities, Safer Roads Humber and wider partners involved in safeguarding, education and early intervention.
Our aims are; Connection, Coordination and Communication.
- To improve the availability, accessibility and quality of education and support for young people, preventing them being impacted by crime;
- To ensure every young person benefits from access to resources that reduces their risk of being impacted by crime;
- To support schools and youth organisations in accessing age appropriate resources and key safety messages for young people, encouraging them to become active thinkers and supportive bystanders to their friends within school, and the wider community;
- To support teachers and youth engagement professionals in developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes in their children which they need in order to make positive choices in potentially challenging or dangerous situations.
Humber Education Partnership Resource Portal
The Beating Crime Plan (p40) published by the Government in July 2021 recognised the importance of prevention and early intervention for topics historically seen as outside of the remit for ‘Police and Crime’.
‘We are improving education and awareness for all children, including through implementation of the new Relationships and Sex Education, and Health Education curriculum, which focuses on healthy relationships and staying safe online, as well as teaching pupils about laws relating to a range of areas including exploitation, grooming, coercion, harassment, domestic abuse and female genital mutilation.’
‘Police and Crime’ reaches to all areas of society. The Humber Education Partnership Resource Portal recognises the important role that each of our partners play in contributing to the ‘Police and Crime’ agenda.
In addition to topics specifically associated with ‘Crime’, crime education resources are also found in the work covered by our partners covering the themes that we categorise broadly on this portal as Fire, Health, Road Safety and Social.
The Humber Education Partnership Resource Portal provides a central hub of information and signposts Teachers and Professionals to the services and resources available.
By working in partnership we can ensure every young person benefits from access to resources that reduce their risk of being impacted by crime. (Humberside Police and Crime Plan, 2021-2025, p13).
